Culross in brief
Culross is a Royal Burgh in Fife. The National Trust for Scotland looks after Culross Palace, its garden and a number of historic buildings in the village. The palace and the garden are the main paid visit. The streets of the village itself are open to walk, because people live here.
The palace and garden are also the reason many visitors come: they are Outlander filming locations. If you are staying in Alloa, Culross works as a half-day trip that you can combine with other days out, for example with day trips from Edinburgh, a visit to Stirling or one of our Scotland day tours.

Outlander locations in Culross
What to see and what to expect.
Culross Palace, the garden and the Royal Burgh are Outlander filming locations. They appear in series 1, 2, 4 and 7.
Rather than hunting for single scenes, walk the village streets, which are free, and then go into the palace and garden, where the ochre walls, red tile roofs and garden paths will look familiar if you know the show.
Palace
An ochre building with red tile roofs. Entry is by timed small groups, so allow time on the day.
Garden
Garden paths and a herb garden. You can buy a garden-only ticket for £5 (adult, 2026).
Village streets
Open without a ticket. People live here, so keep noise down and do not look into windows or gardens.
Abbey ruins
A stone portal of Culross Abbey stands in the village. Check on site which parts you can enter.
How entry works
Tickets for the palace are sold on the day in the Townhouse shop. Because of the old timber beams, only 8 people enter every 15 minutes. This applies to members too. In busy periods you may wait for your slot, so go to the shop first and then walk the village while you wait.
The visit itself is short. Plan about half a day for the village, palace and garden together, and use the opening hours above as the limit rather than the target. Until the end of October the day ends at 16:00.

A simple half-day plan
One order that works with the entry slots.
1. Buy your ticket first
Go to the Townhouse shop and take your palace slot. Until the end of October the last palace entry is at 15:00, so do not leave this for late in the day.
2. Walk the village
Use the time before your slot to walk the streets. This part is free and open, and it gives you the setting before you go inside.
3. Palace, then garden
Enter the palace at your time, then walk the garden. If you only want the garden, the £5 adult ticket (2026) is enough.
4. Decide on the family ticket
A family ticket is £38 in 2026. Add up the single prices for your group before you choose, because the right ticket depends on who is travelling.
