Scotland tours from Alloa and the Stirling area
Most Scotland tours that include Stirling, Loch Lomond or the Kelpies are one-day trips that start in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Alloa is not a regular stop on the examples below, so plan to join the tour in one of the two cities. Alloa has a direct train to Glasgow Queen Street, with an average journey of 45 minutes.
Before you book, check three things: the start point, what the price includes and what happens if a castle or boat is closed on your day. The examples below show the type of tour, not a price or a free seat on your date.

Our picks: day trips from Edinburgh and Glasgow
All of these leave from Edinburgh or Glasgow, so pick the city that is closer. The 16-seat minibus from Glasgow is the smallest vehicle, and the Outlander day is the one that runs through Culross. The 5-hour trip to the Kelpies and Stirling Castle fits a morning, but its castle entry is paid separately.

Day tour types compared
Two examples and one add-on.
| Tour | Starts in | Length | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond and a boat cruise | Glasgow, Buchanan Bus Station, 09:00 | 1 day, back about 18:00 | Minicoach for up to 16 guests. Transport and guide are included. The castle entry and the boat cruise are optional extras. Stops can change order. |
| Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle and the Kelpies | Edinburgh, Castle Terrace, in front of the NCP car park | 1 day | Check the date and the included entries before you book. |
| Whisky visit at a distillery near Doune | Deanston, near Doune | โ | Tours and tastings at a distillery in a former cotton mill. Not a tour from Alloa. |
For most visitors staying in Alloa, the simplest plan is the Glasgow departure: take the train to Glasgow Queen Street and check the train times against the 09:00 start. If you only want Stirling, skip the tour and go by train on your own; see our Stirling guide.
What to check before you book
The same stops can be sold in different ways.
Start point
Glasgow tours meet at Buchanan Bus Station and Edinburgh tours at Castle Terrace. If you want a pick-up closer to home, ask the operator before you book.
Entry tickets
On the Glasgow tour the castle entry and the boat cruise are optional extras. Compare that with the price before you decide.
Closures
A tour cannot promise an interior visit if a site closes on the day, for example in bad weather. Ask what the operator does in that case.
Stop order
The order of the stops can change. If you want a certain place at a certain hour, a day tour is the wrong format.
Is a Scotland tour worth it from Alloa?
A day tour makes sense for Loch Lomond, because the places are spread out and the transport is part of the price. It makes less sense for Stirling, which is 8 minutes from Alloa by train. For a mix, use a tour for the far places and go by train for the near ones.
For tours to the lake, read the Loch Lomond tours guide. For departures from the capital, see day trips from Edinburgh.
